Providing affordable and sustainable homes

Working in partnership to provide affordable and sustainable homes

WE are delighted to continue our relationship with Castles and Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) to build energy efficient and sustainable homes in a South Lakes village.

With the backing of South Lakeland District Council in the form of £300,000 funding, we will again partner with CCHA to build 25 homes in the Crookfield area of Staveley to complete the third phase of a wider scheme to provide much needed homes in the south of Cumbria.

Twenty of the homes are classified as affordable housing – a mixture of 16 two and three bedroom houses and four four-bedroom bungalows.

Five open market houses for local occupancy will complete the development.

The funding and progress of the development is dependent on planning permission being granted, but we are extremely excited to be in a position to share the plans which will hugely benefit the local economy.

We echo the sentiments of Councillor Helen Chaffey, the portfolio holder for housing at SLDC, who was quoted as saying the availability of affordable homes was crucial to the project.

In an article in the Westmorsland Gazette, Councillor Chaffey said: “This grant will support our target of facilitating the construction of 1,000 affordable homes to rent by 2025 while also meeting another council priority of responding to climate change by ensuring that new development is sustainable, energy energy and flood resilient.”

It is hoped that planning permission for this third phase will be passed by planners when it is discussed later this year so we can provide such vital affordable, sustainable homes in this area of the country.
