Floor risk in Kendal

Playing a vital role in alleviating flood risk in Kendal

Posted on: November 1, 2021

SEEING Kendal, and other parts of our beautiful county, on the news yet again after being devastated by the recent floods was heartbreaking to see.

Communities hit by flooding over the years were once again devastated when heavy rainfall saw river water rise to dangerous levels in a matter of days.

Burneside Road in Kendal is one such area which has been plagued with such issues in the past when the River Kent flooded in 2004, 2005, 2009, 2015 and now again in 2021.

So we are delighted to be able to play such an important role to protect the flood-hit area from further devastation by replacing an ineffective water culvert.

Last week, residents were once again saying how concerned they are about flooding risks due to the watercourse which has been damaged.

As we are due to start work on constructing 157 homes on our Meadow Rigg on land nearby, Cumbria County Council asked if we could assist with surface water drainage from the site and enquired whether we could help finance the replacement of the damaged existing culvert located close to the site entrance.

We didn’t hesitate in agreeing to provide what are going to be vital improvements in the area, and we will provide £277,000 to finance the work.

We always strive to have a positive impact on the local community and knowing we could make a huge difference to people’s lives and make them safer meant that this was a project we could firmly get behind.

Replacing the culvert will prevent residents living in fear of their homes flooding every time it rains heavily, and it will certainly put their minds at ease.

Our Meadow Rigg project represents the largest single development carried out by Russell Armer Homes in our 60-year history, with a total of 157 homes to be built.

The development will comprise one to four bedroom houses and apartments, and is located close to Carus Green Golf Club.

The Meadow Rigg estate is well placed for access to local amenities, such as South Lakeland Retail Park, and primary and secondary schools, and is just over a mile from Kendal Railway Station.

We look forward to adding to what is already a flourishing community, and there has been a lot of interest already in the new development. We are excited to be providing some top quality homes in such a desirable part of the country.
