Now they’re well and truly settled in, we got in touch to find out how they’re enjoying life in their Genesis home.

Why did you choose our Eamont Chase development?
“We loved the Carleton area and being this side of Penrith really appealed to us. My grandma lived in a property just around the corner, so being in this area really felt like home.
“As we’re getting older, it’s important for us to be in town, close to amenities and with easy access to bus routes – this way we’re future proofing. Our dog absolutely loves it here too and there’s plenty of lovely walks nearby.
“The location is so quiet and peaceful, you don’t hear anything. We love it, we’re so pleased we came to this to end of town.”
What made you chose your house type, The Dee?
“We weren’t initially looking for a bungalow, and I quite liked the 3-bedroom detached house types, but we were also trying to downsize for the future. When we looked at the floorplans for The Dee, we realised it was a great home for us, the space is perfect for just the two of us and our dog.
“Our previous home only had a patio area so now having a large turfed garden is great and the dog loves it.
“We haven’t got a garage like we used to have, but it was an opportunity to declutter and instead, we’ve put a big shed in the garden which works really well.”
What is your favourite part of the home?
“My favourite part has to be the French doors in the living room, I love how we can open the doors and you’re straight into the garden. It’s definitely the room we spend most of our time in. I just can’t wait for summer this year.”
Did you consider a second-hand property? And if so, what made you choose a new build instead?
“We did look around second-hand properties but we both still work and don’t really have time to do lots of DIY or renovations. The utility bills in a new build are so reasonable and older properties are really hard to heat with bills being much higher, so it just makes sense!
“Our previous home was a new build when we bought it, and we were there for 27 years so it was very much our family home. The difference with buying with Genesis Homes compared to buying new last time was that we got to choose all the finishes and extras so that was really nice.”
What do you like most about living in a new build?
“We love that everything is all nice and new. We’ve started decorating and it really is a blank canvas where you can add your style and really make it your own. We chose lots of extras and upgrades to make it exactly how we’d want rather than adding things in the future.”
How did you find buying ‘off plan’?
“Buying off plan was a bit daunting at first as we didn’t really know what the house was going to look like. I found a home account on Instagram for someone who had also bought a Dee in West Cumbria so we could get an idea of how it looked inside, and it really helped me to decide on how to style and use the space.
“When we first moved in, I was so excited to come home. It used to feel like I was coming back to a hotel. We moved in close to Christmas so my son put the Christmas tree up for us, it felt magical.
“We decided to buy lots of new furniture when we moved too, so everything was new and made it all feel lovely.”
Did you consider other housebuilders and if yes, why did you choose Genesis Homes?
“We looked at another housebuilder close to Eamont Chase that were similar to Genesis Homes. What really stood out was that Genesis Homes were just so straight forward and honest; they were able to provide a price and were transparent, making it an easy choice.”
Would you recommend us?
“Yes, we would definitely recommend Genesis Homes to family and friends. The sales executive was amazing. She really helped me decide on the choices, guided us through the process, kept us informed and sent pictures. We love our home and any small snags were quickly dealt with.”
