The team at Genesis Homes is excited to start work on our new 27-home development at Edward’s View in Burgh by Sands later this year after planning approval was granted this week.
Cumberland Council’s Planning Committee granted permission for Edward’s View this week, with the village located close to Hadrian’s Wall set to benefit from £130,000 funding towards community improvements as a result.
As part of the new development, which will comprise a mix of two to five bedroom houses and bungalows, we will contribute £90,510 towards education within the parish and £40,000 to improve local open spaces.
A further benefit to the community is that five of the 27 homes will be designated as affordable housing available to local residents.
Edward’s View follows the success of Genesis’ neighbouring 24-home housing development, The Orchards, just off Aballava Way.

The new development has been named Edward’s View in tribute to King Edward I who died in the village in 1307. A prominent statue immortalising his link to Burgh by Sands is located within the village.
The new development is located close to Burgh by Sands Primary School, and near an existing children’s play area at King Edwards’ Fauld.
A Sustainable Drainage System pond and a pumping station will be included within the development.
John said: “Our adjoining development The Orchards was a big hit with local residents and we are confident Edward’s View will be as equally popular. We look forward to starting work in the coming months and creating homes where local families will grow and thrive.”
Work on Edward’s View, the 12th housing development across Cumbria from Genesis Homes, is due to commence later this year.
