Our favorite things about the lovely village of Stainburn

Posted on: November 5, 2021

LOCATED on the outskirts of the coastal town of Workington, the village of Stainburn is a lovely little area which is also well connected to the Lake District. We look at what we love about Stainburn so much.

Perfectly located to cater for all interests

Do you love to be beside the seaside? Or going for a long ramble in the picturesque Lake District? Why not both?

Stainburn has you covered for whatever your interests, and is perfectly located for any type of daytime activity. A short journey will see you enjoying the beaches the west coast has to offer and, if you don’t mind travelling that little bit further, the Lake District lies to the east of the village, with the popular town of Keswick just 20 miles away.

Scenic country routes for keen walkers

While the Lake District is famed for its challenging and enjoyable routes, particularly the Wainwright Walks, the keen walkers among you don’t have to travel for your fix of the great outdoors.

There are various routes in and around Stainburn which are just waiting to be explored on foot, and the routes close to the River Derwent are particularly beautiful. There is no shortage of green space and countryside in Stainburn, and it is a haven for those who enjoy a good bit of fresh air.

Great employment opportunities

When people are asked about nearby Workington, a large percentage of people will undoubtedly tell you about the town’s renowned port.

The Port of Workington is well connected to businesses throughout Europe because of its easy access by ship, and it also offers rail freight services via a main railway line connection. Due to the high volume of business the port operates with on a daily basis, there are ample opportunities to forge long-lasting careers in the area.

A brilliant community pub/restaurant/hotel

According to the UK Census, Stainburn is a village with under 2,000 inhabitants. One thing that is essential for small, rural communities like this is a good, friendly, welcoming pub!

And The Briery, on Stainburn Road, delivers all the goods as it plays the role of pub, restaurant and hotel. The venue has the reputation of being among the best in Cumbria, and having such an establishment on your doorstep is always a winning feeling.

Supermarkets, shops and cinema nearby

Everything you could wish for in your local area is close by in Stainburn. As well as the aforementioned The Briery, there is a Spar shop and BP garage in the village itself.

And again, not too far away in neighbouring Workington, there are shops galore for all your retail pleasures. Dunmail Park is a real treat for shoppers and the household names of Asda, Subway, Costa and Dixons can be found all at the same site, with the added bonus of a superb Plaza Cinema.
