AT Genesis Homes, we are passionate about providing opportunities for our workforce to upskill and be the best they can be.
As well as providing apprenticeships and traineeships for those just starting out in their chosen careers, we encourage our staff, wherever possible, to learn new skills and develop their current attributes around their roles at Genesis.
Career progression is a key motivation for employees and we want our staff to feel they have the best opportunities to thrive and develop while working here.
Providing training opportunities not only improves people’s work skills, but it increases their confidence levels, keeps them enthusiastic about the work they carry out and can also boost their social and communication skills.
Allowing people to achieve their work ambitions is incredibly rewarding, and of course business benefits greatly from motivated and highly qualified members of staff.
Currently, we have a number of colleagues carrying out training on the job, and in a variety of roles including HR, business, marketing and construction.
As you may have recently read in the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald, we supported Jack Wallace through his apprenticeship, and we have committed to helping him take the next steps on his career path by putting him through his Higher National Diploma in Site Surveying Technician (Level 4) at Preston College and then on to a degree in Quantity Surveying at Northumbria University.
Laura Frazer will be able to tell Jack what to expect when he heads to university as we are currently supporting her through her Quantity Surveying course at Northumbria, and we look forward to seeing her put her new learned skills into practice.
Two other young people getting hands-on experience of being on construction sites while studying are apprentice bricklayers Kieran Chaledcott and Connor Torney, who are combining work at our Farries Field (Stainburn) and Beckstones (Rheda North Park) developments respectively with their studies at West Lakes College.
There are plenty of other training taking place elsewhere in the company too with Abby Connell, our trainee Sales Executive, working at Beckstones, while Nina Smith is close to completing her chartered accountancy qualification.
Katy Aris is being supported through her CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing course as she continues her career development, and Laura Pepper is in her final year of her CIPD Level 5 Diploma in People Management, the equivalent of a degree.
Whenever an opportunity to upskill presents itself, we’re always open to exploring them so we can maximise people’s potential and make sure they’re getting fulfillment from their day to day work.
More exciting opportunities are on the horizon at Genesis Homes as we aim to appoint eight more apprentices as part of the creation of 26 new job roles at the company in the coming months.
