FROM blank canvas to showhome standard, the Genesis Homes journey has certainly been an eye-catching one for one of our first ever customers.
Little over four years ago, Michelle Moore moved into a four-bedroomed detached house on our first development at St Cuthbert’s Close in Wigton – the third house we had sold since the company was founded in January 2017.
Similarly to the experience we have enjoyed, Michelle’s journey has been an exciting one.
Michelle shared with us the story of how she has developed her Genesis Home over the years, and what work she has put into putting her mark on her new property.
Having previously lived in Carlisle, Michelle was looking for a home in the city – specifically a new build because of the comfort blanket in the form of a two-year builders’ warranty and a further eight years of Local Authority Building Control (LABC) guarantee.
She had never considered moving out of the city, but a brand new Genesis Home 11-and-a-half miles away drew her away. “I never intended to move to Wigton,” she told us. “I moved purely because I fell in love with the house.
“I had looked at properties elsewhere closer to Carlisle but I never found anywhere which had the high quality of finish in the building work, the size of the rooms and the practicality of the lay-out of the rooms that the Genesis Homes did.”
With a vision of how she would decorate and furnish her new home, Michelle set to work on turning the house into a home – and an immaculate, modern, comfortable home at that.
As most of the decor was neutral colours – customers of Genesis Homes can now choose from a selection of decoration when they buy their home – Michelle turned her high levels of creativity firstly to the walls, and then the accessories in each room.
While it is recommended that people wait at least six months before painting the walls to allow the plaster to settle correctly, Michelle waited even longer as she shared a tip with us.
She said: “I was keen not to rush into decorating because it takes time for you to see where the light comes in, and that’s when you can really find out what works for you and you can decorate around that.
“The light coming through tells you where you can put your mirror without any glare and which part of the room may be darker so certain furnishings won’t work in that particular area.”
To add the wonderful array of striking colours which make every room a joy to enter, Michelle adopted a process of choosing one base colour and then selecting an accent colour to complement it, matching that for the furniture and accessories.
Another improvement Michelle made to her home is significantly extending the patio area which allows for a greater social space while keeping the garden area a good size too.
“The homes are good plot sizes and we had enough space to extend the social part of the outdoor area without compromising the garden space,” said Michelle.
“The way the homes have been built and their layout on the development means you aren’t overlooked by neighbouring properties like other sites are and you certainly feel you have a great degree of privacy in your own home.
“I have been so impressed with Genesis Homes for its high quality of build and its excellent customer service – both at the point of sale and post sale – and I would definitely recommend the company to anybody looking to buy their new home.”
Michelle’s home in Wigton is now on the market.
