Our current charity of the year is CRY for Eden, a Penrith-based charity part of a nationwide initiative that provides free heart screenings for people aged 14 – 35. It also supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected.
Donna Mills, founder and fundraiser of CRY for Eden, said: “A staggering 80% of young people who die from an undiagnosed heart condition have no prior knowledge or symptoms of any issue. Furthermore, one in 300 people in the UK between these ages will have a life-threatening condition, and one in 100 will have something which requires regular monitoring.
I’m absolutely over the moon Genesis Homes is showing such amazing support by choosing us as its Charity of the Year in 2025. The money and support will be invaluable and will help us to fund future screening events in Penrith.
For 2024, our chosen charity was ANDYSMANCLUB which is a men’s suicide prevention charity. The charity offers free support groups each Monday evening across the United Kingdom and online. There are numerous clubs across Cumbria. The mission of the charity is to remove the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. #ITSOKAYTOTALK
In 2023, our chosen charity was Annie Mawson’s Sunbeams Music Trust which delivers outstanding and vital Community Music Therapy to disabled children and adults across Cumbria in the North West of England. We have also supported The Great North Air Ambulance Service and we continue to be a patron for the amazing, life-saving work it carries out on a daily basis.
