Lazonby is 7.5 miles north of the town of Penrith, which is often referred to as the northern gateway to the Lake District, and approximately 16 miles south of the city of Carlisle. To get here you would normally travel through Penrith to get to Lazonby. You can either arrive via junction 40 on the M6 at Penrith and drive 15 minutes north to Lazonby, or from the east use the A66 to Penrith and then drive to the village from there. The city of Carlisle is less than 30 minutes’ drive north, or a short train trip away, and is home to all the entertainment you’d expect of a large city. There are cinemas, trampoline parks, museums, Carlisle Castle, art galleries and shopping centres as well as a choice of supermarkets, restaurants, bars, pubs and cafés.

What amenities are there in Lazonby?

In Lazonby itself there is Lazonby Train Station and a bus route with regular local buses. There is a Lakes and Dales Co-operative village shop which stocks all the basics and then some. Aside from the swimming pool and park, you’ll also find a toy shop that makes bespoke toys, Croglin Toys, the village hall and a rural fire station. Lazonby Coop has an ATM and Post Office services and Lazonby is also home to a pub, The Midland, a primary school, Lazonby C of E Primary School and the village church is St Nicholas Anglican Church, which is in the centre of the Lazonby. Bells of Lazonby Ltd is a family owned and run bakers that has been baking for over 75 years. There are two bakeries on the site, one dedicated to traditional bread products and cakes and the other solely used for producing gluten and dairy free goodies. You’ll find Bells of Lazonby bread, pies, pastries and cakes stocked throughout the region and sometimes further afield. Their wares are absolutely delicious and a firm favourite with Cumbrians.

Lazonby pool with its pretty outdoor pools, caters to all ages and abilities with two separate pools, one shallow for children, water fountains and plenty of seating for spectators. They offer lane swimming, private hire and pool classes from May-September and have a small kiosk selling snacks and drinks, or bacon sandwiches on Sunday mornings.
